In this blog post I am going to explain briefly how the Priestly Courses line up with 1Kings 8 and Match the DSS. Some people have gotten confused thinking that the Priestly order given by King David is different than the order found in the DSS.
Priest #1 is Yehoiarib drawn by lots by King David in 1 Chronicles 24:7. In 1 Kings 8 we read that Solomon assembled all the priest in the 7th month to bring up the ark, and the tent of meeting to the house he had built. Then Solomon held a feast seven days, even 14 days and sent them away the 8th day. vs. 65-66
Now we can see that when the temple was set up in the 7th month the 1st Priest in line, Yehoiarib, would have served. In the DSS we see that in the 7th month on the 5th day of the month Yehoiarib goes into service and 4Q321. FR. V page 357, by Geza Vermes, says Yehoiarib is in service in the 1st year in the 7th. month on the day of Atonement, which is the 10th day of the 7th month.
If we continue the Priestly Courses found in 1 Chronicles24:7 in order without adding any days and disrupting the priestly order all the way through the rest of year one, year 2, year 3, year 4, year 5, and year 6, then when you come back to year one in the 1st month the 1st day of the Year you will have Gamul #22 starting the year just as the Zadokite Priest Record in the Dead Sea Scrolls.
You can see how all this works out by looking at the 6 years of Priestly Courses with the DSS notes on this website.
